OPPO introduces their most affordable 5G devices with the Reno5 series, now available in Malaysia

While we may not see wide 5G deployment in Malaysia just yet, there’s also no harm in future-proofing your current smartphone purchases with something 5G capable. If you’re looking for a more accessible device cost-wise, OPPO’s Reno5 5G range might serve as a good entry point.

The OPPO Reno5 5G and Reno5 Pro 5G are the latest additions to the brand’s mid-range line of devices. Both devices are largely similar, but differ in terms of screen size and the chipset. They both feature a rear quad-camera setup, consisting of a 64MP main shooter, 8MP wide-angle lens, a 2MP macro shooter and 2MP depth lens. The front-facing camera is a 32MP shooter.

With the Reno5, OPPO has introduced a range of AI-assisted features, collectively known as the AI Highlight Video. It can, for one, automatically detect ambient light in a scene and improve the video’s quality by applying the brand’s Ultra Night Video Algorithms and Live HDR Algorithms. For instance, in dark environments, the Ultra Night Video algorithm will kick in to brighten the scene.

There is also a new dual-view video feature that enables video to be captured from the front and rear cameras simultaneously, which should be good for vloggers.

Both the Reno5 5G and Reno5 Pro 5G devices feature a 90Hz display, though they vary in size and resolution. On the Reno5 5G, it is a 6.4-inch AMOLED screen with a 2400 x 1080 resolution. The Pro version, on the other hand, features a 6.5-inch 3D curved Super AMOLED screen.

They also sport different chipsets. The Reno5, for one, has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G, while the Reno5 Pro sports a Mediatek MT6889Z Dimensity 1000+ (7nm) octa-core SoC, which is MediaTek’s latest flagship 5G-integrated chipset. Both devices, however, support 65W ultra-fast charging, which can provide up to 100% in juice in 35 minutes. The Reno5 has a 4,300mAh battery, though the Pro variant has a slightly larger 4,350mAh capacity.

The OPPO Reno5 5G is priced at US$470 (RM1,899) in Malaysia, while the Reno5 Pro 5G will go for US$643 (RM2,599). The first sale of Reno5 series will be starting from 27 Jan (today), available at any OPPO Brand Store, OPPO Official E-commerce stores, OPPO Official dealer stores, as well as e-commerce partners, telco partners and chain store partners
