STAYING true to its selfie lineage, smartphone-maker Oppo is back with the latest addition to its F series with the Oppo F7.

Oppo’s latest attempt at capturing the smartphone market has a massive 6.23-inch FHD+ display with an unusual 19:9 aspect ratio that Oppo calls Super Full Screen. In order to maximise the screen, Oppo went along with including a notch in the screen, making way for the selfie camera, sensor and earpiece.

Despite the notch, the 2,280 x 1,080 resolution is big enough that users will enjoy plenty of screen real estate for social media browsing, videos and gaming.

Speaking of gaming, it has an App-in-App feature that allows users to pick up incoming calls while they continue gaming or watching a movie.

Design-wise, the F7 comes in three striking colours, Solar Red, Moonlight Silver and Diamond Black.

Powering the F7 is a MediaTek Helio P60 processor, 4GB of RAM and a 3,400mAh battery to help it last through a full day.

Oppo also has a special Diamond Black and Sunrise Red edition that is more powerful and comes with 128GB internal storage and 6GB of RAM which is exclusively available at selected Oppo stores. No price has been announced for this variant.

The F7 will run on Oppo’s ColorOS 5.0 operating system which is based on Android 8.1. Oppo claims that the operating system utilises AI to efficiently manage its power so as to improve performance while maintaining a longer battery life.

Much like every other phone in the market, users are able to unlock the phone using their fingerprint, password or face unlock.

By way of connectivity, you get a microUSB port for charging and data transfer plus a 3.5mm headphone jack. The F7 also benefits from having dedicated trays for the dual SIM card slot and microSD, so you don’t have to choose one over the other.

Of course, Oppo’s smartphones have been marketed as selfie phones. This time Oppo hopes to change the game with the F7’s high-resolution 25-Megapixel front camera. The company claims that the front camera is able to capture highly detailed images and better low light portraits.

Paired with Oppo’s AI Beauty 2.0 mode, it is said to offer better beautification effects that are specific to the individual’s gender and age. Oppo claims the phones AI is able to learn and identify one’s beautification preferences and suggest the best possible settings.

A new Vivid mode is said to give users more opportunities to play with colour saturation and enhance the colour of objects in their photos. For some added fun there are AR (Augmented Reality) Stickers whenever you feel like using some funny effects.

The rear 16-Megapixel camera on the back also benefits from an AI element as it is said to be able to recognise up to 16 different scenes.

According to Oppo, the F7 is priced at RM1,399 via its offline and online channel stores. Online users can buy the phone from Oppo’s official website or from e-commerce sites like Lazada, 11Street, Shopee and others.
