Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 and Gear Fit2 Pro come to town

 

SAMSUNG Malaysia launched its new Galaxy Note 8 smartphone and Gear Fit2 Pro sports band in Kuala Lumpur.

During the launch, Samsung acknowledged the troubled launch and sale of the previous Galaxy Note model but thanked its fan base for sticking with them. Outside Pavilion KL, where the launch was held it was clear that there is still a large fan base for the Note 8.

The productivity focused Galaxy Note 8, retailing for US$952 (RM3,999) features a sleek design that is reminiscent of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ launched earlier this year.

Just like their earlier flagship phone the Note 8 is water and dust resistant with an IP68 rating.

The elongated 6.3-inch Quad HD+ Infinity Display provides ample room for multitasking with two apps open in Multi Window.

Featuring a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage that is expandable up to 256GB it packs plenty of power.

Other features include wireless charging and Samsung DeX support that lets the Note 8 function like a desktop machine.

Of course, the defining feature of the Note 8 is the S Pen which has been enhanced with new ways to write, draw and interact with Live Messages that share animated text or drawings across platforms support animated GIFs.

There is also the new Screen off memo feature that allows Note 8 users to immediately start taking notes the moment they remove the S Pen.

The Note 8 is also the first Galaxy smartphone to feature dual cameras with twin 12-Megapixel cameras with wide-angle and telephoto lenses.

In addition, the also has dual Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) and new Live Focus feature that takes advantage of the dual cameras to produce photos with bokeh (blurred background) effect.

The Galaxy Note 8 will be available in three colours: midnight black, orchid grey and maple gold.

For the fitness freaks

Samsung also introduced its latest GPS sports band the Gear Fit2 Pro, that comes with built-in GPS tracking to capture your run or ride with accurate activity tracking and smart features.

It will feature a Super AMOLED curved 1.5-inch display and a high-resolution touchscreen for making real-time updates and notifications easier to read.

As it is truly water resistant with 5ATM certification and can be submerged to depths of up to 50m in fresh and even salt water, it is suited for activities like swimming.

Apart from that, it is compatible with third-party fitness apps such as MyFitnessPal, MapMyRun, Endomondo and UA REcord.

It will be available in two colour variations: liquid black and diamond red. The Gear Fit2 Pro will retail for US$190 (RM799).
