SAMSUNG continues its Galaxy S8 and S8+ launches in South-East Asia this week as its flagship smartphone comes Malaysia.

Earlier this week Samsung launched the two S8 models in Indonesia.

Samsung’s vice president of IT and mobile business Lee Jui Siang (pic, below) said that pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S8 have been very encouraging, claiming that pre-orders for the S8 are four times more than the S7.

“The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are true representations of our technology prowess and fine examples of how we are pushing boundaries,” said Lee during the media launch in Petaling Jaya.

The new flagship phones build on Samsung’s design language with a large Infinity Display that defies conventional screens, great dual-pixel sensor, 12-Megapixel rear camera and retains its water and dust resistant IP68 rating.

The Galaxy S8 also carries new features including a virtual assistant called Bixby and an iris scanner to complement its fingerprint scanning security feature.

For Samsung, the Galaxy S8 is the most important smartphone launch to date as it aims to cement its position in the premium smartphone segment following the botched Galaxy Note 7 launch last year when several units of the handset caught fire.

Now that it is in the past, Samsung is putting all its efforts on Galaxy S8 and S8+, going as far as introducing a whole ecosystem of accessories for the handset that enables users to create and enjoy virtual reality (VR) ready content.

This includes a new version of its Gear 360 action camera, Samsung DeX desktop device and a new Gear VR with a controller.

Samsung’s fans won’t have to wait much longer as the handset is set to be sold from May 7 onwards with the Galaxy S8 and S8+ retailing at US$762 (RM3,299) and US$856 (RM3,699) respectively.

Samsung will also be holding Galaxy S8 roadshows across Malaysia from May 5 - 7 at three locations: Sunway Pyramid in the Klang Valley,  Queensbay Mall in Penang and Sutera Mall in Johor Bahru.
