VoWiFi comes into effect with Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro

Being at the forefront of cutting-edge technology, Malaysia’s second largest smartphone brand, Huawei today announced that its flagship Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro will enable Voice Over WiFI (VoWiFi) starting 30 January 2018 onwards. VoWiFi is a complementary technology that allows customers to initiate mobile calls through Wi-Fi connection. The two telecommunication carriers that currently support this function are U Mobile and Digi.

Advancing the progress of VoLTE call support for Malaysians since its introduction last year, this is another state-of-the-art technology offered by Huawei , acclaiming the Mate 10 Series as one of the few products that is available in the market with VoWiFi service. This is backed by over 20 years of research and experience in telecommunication transmission, and Huawei fully leverages on the chipset capability to offer the best communication solution for people in Malaysia. Users of HUAWEI Mate 10 Series can now enjoy HD voice calls and seamless handover between VoLTE and VoWifi. Furthermore, the HD call can be enjoyed by users through VoWIFi from overseas countries to Malaysia with local fee charges instead of the roaming fee. This complements the Mate Series business users travel frequently for business trip and it truly improves the voice quality locally.

Anticipating the arrival of the VoWiFi service, Huawei Malaysia Device business department country director Bill Liu said, “One of the key missions of Huawei is to make things simpler for our customers. Having the VoWiFi service made available in the revolutionary Mate 10 Series enable users to make calls in areas with poor reception, as long as WiFi is available. This is just one of the few testaments to our commitment in delivering impact on the user experience in the coming years.”

Powered by the Kirin 970, the Huawei Mate 10 Series is an intelligent phone with its Artificial Intelligence (AI) capability. It runs on the Huawei EMUI 8.0 and Android 8.0 that will deliver faster and more customised user experience. Partnering with Leica, it also features the world’s largest dual f/1/6 aperture and AI-powered Real-Time Scene and Object Recognition. It also comes with FulView Display, 3D glass body, as well as IP 67 Water and Dust Resistant (Mate 10 Pro only).

Huawei claims to be the world’s first smartphone brand that delivers up to two carriers with VoLTE and VoWiFi services, allowing users to easily swap between networks based on the telco subscription for more connectivity options. In this case, users will find the operator label at the top left of the screen, marking with ‘Wifi’ to confirm that the VoWiFi is running on the phone.

Huawei will also be making another software update announcement for the mid-range hero, nova 2i, where world-class and exciting features will be introduced on 25 January 2018.
