Yoodo levels up their esports game with new partnerships, sponsorships

MORE than other Malaysian telcos, digital mobile service Yoodo has been deeply entrenched in local esports scene. The fully-customisable telco service provider will be expanding its esports reach with a string of new announcements.
This includes the continuation of their successful collaboration with game developer Moonton, most notable as the publisher of hit mobile game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB). Yoodo will also be partnering with Southeast Asia esports organization RSG MY.
“From the very beginning Yoodo has been passionate about esports and today we’ve taken that passion to the next level with these announcements,” said Chow Tuck Mun, Yoodo head. “With these new partnerships and an exciting line-up of tournaments and skilful teams unveiled, there is no denying that we are the most dominant and committed telco when it comes to esports.”
The partnership with Moonton will bring to life an array of MLBB-focused tournaments across 2021. It will begin with the upcoming MLBB Pro League (MPL) Season 7, which for the first time feature a dedicated league for Malaysia.
Qualifiers for MPL Season 7 begins on 5 February 2021, with the regular season set to go on between March 12 and April 18 . Playoffs will be held between April 30 and May 2. This will be followed by a special invitational tournament before MPL Season 8. The partnership with culminate in MLBB M3 World Championships, set to happen in late 2021.
“We recognise that the Malaysian market for MLBB is booming. There are many talented players and a growing base of passionate fans looking for great MLBB action. We are excited to partner Yoodo to satisfy both professional players and fans alike with a line-up of incredible tournaments all throughout 2021,” said Michael Lin, MPL MY’s esports business development and marketing manager.
Upping the competition
Meanwhile, Yoodo announced a strategic partnership with RSG MY, which will witness the introduction of a new MLBB esports team – named Yoodo RSG MLBB – as well as a new Call of Duty: Mobile team – Yoodo RSG CODM.
RSG MY operations manager Aiman Wafiy said the organisation is all about connecting with the esports community in unique ways to create champions in all competitions.
"When it comes to expanding our presence in Malaysia, it was clear from the get-go that Yoodo would be the perfect partner,” said Aiman, adding that he is excited to see how this partnership can take our talented players further.”
Beyond that, Yoodo also unveiled a refreshed roster for their PUBG Mobile esports team, Yoodo Gank. The team notably became the first Malaysian team to win the PUBG Mobile Pro League (PMPL) Southeast Asia 2020.
“Yoodo Gank has been one of the most successful PUBG Mobile teams in Malaysia and with this new roster, we believe the team will continue to set new records and build upon its legacy," said Yoodo's Chow. “We look forward to the exciting dynamic new players will bring with them and wish the team the best of luck.”
