Zeiss’ optics return to Nokia smartphones

HMD Global, which is responsible for bringing back smartphone brand Nokia has inked an exclusive partnership with Zeiss to use their optics in future Nokia smartphones.

With a joint ambition of raising the bar in smartphone imaging technology, the partnership will see Zeiss and HMD Global co-develop image capabilities that will be incorporated in upcoming Android-powered Nokia smartphones.

The move continues the decade-long relationship between the two companies as they had pushed for innovations like the world’s first multi-megapixel mobile phone and standard-setting devices from the Nokia N series to those that feature Nokia PureView technologies.

Some examples of Nokia models of yore that used Zeiss optics includes models as recent as the Lumia 1020 and far back as the N8 and 808 PureView.

According to a press release issued by Nokia, the renewed relationship is a long-term commitment to build on that technology innovation over the years to come.

“Collaborating with Zeiss is an important part of our commitment to always deliver the very best experience for our customers. Our fans want more than a great smartphone camera, they want a complete imaging experience that doesn’t just set the standard but defines it,” said HMD Global chief executive officer Arto Nummela in a statement.
