Blue Coat names ex-Sourcefire exec Ivan Wen to head M’sian ops

BLUE Coat Systems Inc, which specialises in what it terms business assurance technology, announced it has recently IT security veteran Ivan Wen (pic above, left) as its country manager in Malaysia, and would be increasing its activity in the local market.

Wen was formerly the country manager for Sourcefire Malaysia. His role now would be to drive growth and harness new business opportunities for Blue Coat in Malaysia, the company said in a statement.

Established since 2005, Blue Coat Malaysia’s business model is 100% sales and distribution via channel partners.

“We will be working very closely with our local partners to position ‘Business Assurance Technology’ across industries,” said Wen.

Blue Coat’s ‘Business Assurance Technology’ strategy meets the exacting demands of local businesses that are increasingly seeking to adopt a fully integrated IT security approach for greater business efficiency, claimed Wen.

“The blueprint makes it possible for organisations to immediately harness a diversity of best-of-breed technologies and web services, so that Malaysian organisations do not lose out on leveraging IT to drive business innovations,” he added.

Blue Coat said its ‘Business Assurance Technology’ enables an entirely new security approach that empowers organisations with a secure yet flexible capability to choose and use technologies of choice across applications, devices, data sources and more, to achieve greater continuity, agility and governance.

Another reason many businesses today experience security breaches is due to the organisational gap between day-to-day security operations and advanced security operations teams, according to the company.

“This gap exists because traditional security defences are only designed to detect known threats but remain largely blind to today’s zero-day threats and novel-type malware,” said Jonathan Andresen (pic above, right), marketing and product marketing director for Blue Coat in Asia Pacific.

“In view of this, Blue Coat also offers comprehensive Advanced Threat Protection, enabling businesses to fortify the network by blocking cyber threats, proactively detecting malware and automating best practices for incident containment post intrusion,” he added.
