ServisHero and SPCA in online pet adoption drive

KUALA Lumpur-based on-demand services mobile marketplace startup ServisHero and SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) are cooperating on an online pet adoption drive to find homes for local homeless pets this December.

As part of its ‘Home for the Holidays’ campaign, SPCA aims to find homes for the animals in its shelters just in time for the festive season, ServisHero said in a statement.

ServisHero is the trading name for Business Pixel Sdn Bhd.

The ServisHero app, which connects users to plumbing, home repairs, cleaning and other types of services, has been adapted to make it easier for users to find their ideal pet, the company added.

ServisHero said it has built an online and in-app questionnaire that matches each request with the pets at SPCA. This form is designed to not only help SPCA find suitable homes for the animals in its shelters, but to also make it easier for interested individuals to find their ideal pet.

After a request has been submitted either on the webform or via the app, ServisHero will match each request with the pet profiles that best match the answers submitted. Each quote will contain pictures, along with the pet’s profile and character description.

Once the users receive the profiles, they can contact SPCA directly or visit the SPCA Centre in Ampang Jaya in Kuala Lumpur to follow up with the adoption.

“With this campaign, we hope that all our rescued animals will be adopted so they can celebrate the holidays with all the comforts of a real loving home,” said SPCA Selangor chairman Christine Chin.

“We’re very excited to have our animals featured on the ServisHero app – the exposure greatly increases the chances of them finding their forever homes,” she added.

Over 40 homeless dogs and cats from SPCA will have their profiles built into the ServisHero platform, the startup said.

“The ‘Home for the Holidays’ campaign is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to show their support to [the community] and local charities,” said ServisHero chief executive officer Karl Loo.

“ServisHero is aiming to make it simpler for you to save a cat or a dog – we send you the profiles that best match your preference and you can then decide if you want to adopt him or her,” he added.

ServisHero was launched in June, and expanded to Singapore in October. Its app offers a marketplace that pairs customised jobs with the most relevant service providers, including home maintenance workers and a wide range of occupations from wedding planners to tutors and fitness instructors.

According to regional startup blog e27, the company has raised over US$700,000 from conglomerate YTL Corp and e-commerce company Lelong.my, amongst others.

The app, which according to the company has been downloaded 25,000 times, is available for the Android and iOS platforms.
