Call for entries for MCMC and AT&T’s Developers’ Day

  • For developers and non-developers; participants have 24hrs to turn ideas into mobile apps
  • Winners get funds to further invest in their idea, plus also get to present to GES attendees

THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is joining forces with AT&T to host a Developers’ Day in Kuala Lumpur, from Sept 7-8, which will see cash prizes totalling US$14,000 (RM44,000) up for grabs.

Designed as a catalyst for innovation and entrepreneurship, the event will provide attendees with the resources, education and networking structure needed to produce apps. Open to developers and non-developers alike, participants will have 24 hours to form teams and turn their small-business idea into a mobile app.

Participants will have access to AT&T’s Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) which they can quickly plug into their apps for added functionality, such as speech-to-text and voice recognition.

“We are committed to engaging with developers worldwide to deliver a new generation of innovative, powerful apps that leverage the deep capabilities of the AT&T network,” said John Donovan (pic), senior executive vice president of AT&T Technology and Network Operations.

“This event complements our ongoing efforts to provide developers with the right tools and opportunities to capitalise on mobile technology’s transformative power, helping us enhance the communities we touch and better the world in which we live,” he added.

MCMC chief planning and development officer Mohd Ali Hanafiah said that the inaugural Developers’ Day will serve as a useful platform to nurture creative app designers.

“Through this event, we will be able to witness the hidden talents and creativity of each participant. More importantly, it also showcases the ability of our local app designers to compete with the best in the world,” he said.

The AT&T/MCMC Developers’ Day is scheduled to take place in The Westin Kuala Lumpur, from 9am on Sept 7, 2013 to 4pm on Sept 8.

In addition to a grand prize of US$10,000, winners may also have the opportunity to present their apps via telepresence to delegates attending September’s APECTel in Hawaii as well as at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) to be held in Kuala Lumpur on Oct 11-12, 2013.

Participants can register online at http://mobileappkul.eventbrite.com/ . The deadline for registration is Sept 3.
