Gerard Lim, founder and CEO of Agroz Group believes having a vege farm in a mall creates awareness and experiential learning for parents, children, students and the general public about how clean, healthy and fresh vegetables are grown.

A vegetable farm with an educational purpose has taken root in the heart of the Wangsa Maju suburb of Kuala Lumpur. Amid the bustle of shoppers at the AEON Alpha Angle, the recently launched Agroz EduFarm-in-City is growing leafy greens to be sold at AEON supermarkets.

The EduFarm will open for weekend tours from September 2023 from 10am to 7pm to showcase how its technology produces quality, clean and pesticide-free vegetables. The EduFarm has an experience centre and activity room to demonstrate to children and families especially how vegetable farming is possible right in the heart of the city.

Covering some 8,000 square feet, the Agroz EduFarm-in-City is Malaysia's largest Indoor Vertical Farm inside a shopping mall utilising Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) and digital technologies developed by Malaysian agriculture technology company Agroz Group Sdn Bhd.

Agritech startup, Agroz launches 8k sq ft vertical farm in mall in KL“We are thrilled to collaborate with AEON in bringing the Agroz EduFarm-in-City into the shopping and retail experience of shoppers, while at the same time creating awareness and experiential learning for parents, children, students and the general public about how clean, healthy and fresh vegetables are grown,” says Gerard Lim (pic), the founder and CEO of Agroz Group.

“Agroz is a Malaysian agri tech company focused on designing, innovating, building and operating large commercial scale, industrial grade Indoor Vertical Farms using CEA practices to improve food safety, food security and sustainability. Through its CEA model, Agroz is paving the way for modern precision agriculture in Malaysia,” said Gerard.

Vertical farming is transforming agriculture with the use of new technologies to grow more food in less space without pesticides. It contributes to better ways for Malaysia to achieve food safety, food security and sustainability.

Agroz aims to help improve food safety by eliminating the use of pesticides and herbicides while reducing the need for storage and refrigeration. It will improve food security by reducing Malaysia’s multibillion-dollar food import bill as well as growing food locally, nearer to where it is consumed, which reduces transportation thus lowering the carbon emissions.

Agroz contributes to sustainability by reducing or preventing waste and conserving resources through the use of solar and renewable energy, in combination with a myriad of digital technologies including Internet-of-Things (IoT), data analytics, AI, machine learning, automation, robotics, cloud, edge computing, blockchain and 5G communications.

The vegetables grown in Agroz’s CEA Vertical Farms range from salad leaves such as lettuces, kale, arugula, wild rocket, to local varieties such as nai pak and siew pak choy.

Schools may make special arrangements for weekday tours by contacting Agroz Group at [email protected] or via facebook.
