KL Slush'D 2024 aims to ‘Shock the System’

  • Draw an eclectic mix of founders, investors from AI communities
  • Stimulate innovation, forge deeper Malaysia-Finland connections

A Slush conference in Finland.

KL Slush'D 2024, an extension of the global startup event, Slush, is set to make its debut in Kuala Lumpur on March 7th. In a statement Slush claims to be one of the world's largest  startup events, which attracted the participation of VCs who collectively managed more than US$1 trillion funds under management in 2023.

Embracing the theme "Shock the System", KL Slush'D 2024 anti-conference emphasises the disruptive power of AI and promises to fuel the rising startup ecosystem in Malaysia and propel it onto the global stage. KL Slush’D 2024 will draw an eclectic mix of founders, developers, investors, and speakers from AI communities of Hong Kong, Singapore, US, South Korea, Indonesia, and Brunei.

The one-night event will be held at Kwai Chai Hong, within the historical heart of Kuala Lumpur, and embraces a night conference format, focusing on networking among local and international attendees. Breakout sessions on AI-related topics will be held across various bars and cafes, while local performances, light art projections, and delicacies will offer an experience unlike any other tech conference.

Drawing deep into the grassroots beginnings of Slush in Finland over a decade ago, which was organised by student volunteers from Aalto University, KL Slush’D 2024 will similarly be staffed by 50 student volunteers studying Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at Universiti Malaya.

KL Slush'D 2024 aims to ‘Shock the System’"Our mission with KL Slush'D is to spearhead the establishment of an Internationally recognized startup cluster in Malaysia, focused on uniting the regional community around the next age of Generative AI," said Damon Grow and Eric Lee (pic), co-founders of KL Slush’D. "We're embracing the power of AI to redefine the realm of possibilities, orchestrating a new age where Malaysian startups can dream bigger, reach further, and make a profound impact on society."

Stella Korpikuusi, who leads Expansion at Slush, says “At Slush, our core belief is that entrepreneurship serves as the most effective catalyst for human progress. We acknowledge the vital need for more builders—those pioneers who bravely venture into the realm of the new. However, we're deeply cognizant that establishing companies is a daunting task, necessitating extensive resources, and robust guidance. As such, our mission is devoted to helping and creating founders who dare to change the world.”

KL Slush'D 2024 aims to ‘Shock the System’“Today, we stand at an exciting juncture as the KL Slush'D initiative, an official extension of Slush, takes shape in Malaysia.” says Anni Ståhle (pic), Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Finland in Kuala Lumpur. “We recognise the KL Slush'D initiative as a crucial step towards consolidating the local startup ecosystem, stimulating innovation, and forging deeper connections between Malaysia and Finland. We anticipate that this initiative will blend the innovative spirit of Finland and the dynamic potential of Malaysia.”

KL Slush’D 2024 is organised by Arkade Ventures and Digital Districts, and supported by the Embassy of Finland (Malaysia), Business Finland, University of Malaya, Amazon Web Services, and AirAsia Move.

Slush’D is a community-driven movement that empowers teams across the globe to create events for their local ecosystems – all in the spirit of Slush’s mission “to create and help founders that change the world.”
