INDONESIA-based Motoran is a marketplace for buying and selling second-hand motorcycles.
Founded in September 2018 by Ranggaswara Prasetya, former GoTix (Go-Jek) co-head and former Astra International business development manager Fariz Mochammad, Motoran brings worry-free to used motorcycle transactions to the Indonesia market.
“We aim to create a trusted and comfortable ecosystem in used motorcycle online transactions, so that people will feel like they are purchasing a new motorcycle.
“Every motorcycle listing will be going through several checking processes including a complete motorcycle inspection by an independent team to minimise worries, price standardisation based on the condition and market price through automated pricing engines, and document verification,” said Ranggaswara.
To date, Motoran has 4,000 active users and 10,000 downloads on Android PlayStore targeting anyone aged between 18 to 55-years-old who needs a used motorcycle.
The company reaches their target market through online advertising, offline branding, and sales agents. It is currently serving customers in the JaDeTaBek area and plan to expand to other Java areas this year.
As they have only been operating for a few months, Ranggaswara says company has not seen monthly growth yet, but aim to reach 20% growth per month with unit listing, credit payments, and after sales network partners as key drivers.
“For our dealer partners, we want to support them to increase their sales through access to high quality yet affordable used motorcycle supplies. Every user transacting through Motoran will get three months warranty (two months from Motoran and one month by dealer). We charge dealer partners on a pay per hot leads (order) basis.”
According to Ranggaswara, the “pay per hot leads” scheme will help dealers get serious buyers from Motoran.
Currently, Motoran has partnerships with more than 100 dealers for unit supplies, some leasing partners for credit payment, and is in discussions with workshop partners for an after-sales service network. They are also exploring of third party document processing options.
Through the platform, users can search for suitable motorcycles, bargain on the price, contact the seller, then complete the transaction.
Ranggaswara said the challenge is to move fast with just less than 10 full time employees and a limited pre-seed budget.
“We work really fast and are focused on building a MVP product first while we keep improving the app based on user input. Our first month user-based result was quite good and we have already partnered with more than 100 dealer partners and one big Indonesian leasing company. We are also in discussions with other potential partners.”
Aiming to provide an end-to-end platform for used motorcycle transactions, Ranggaswara says that there are no such platforms in Indonesia to date, with most other platforms just offering unit listing.
Motoran received US$100,000 in pre-seed funding from Singapore-based incubator, Antler. It is set to raise seed funding from Antler’s investor partners this month.
