RHB Banking Group today announced an open call for startups across ASEAN to apply for its first-ever, accelerator programme.

The Xcelerator 2023 is intended to develop and build a collaborative relationship within the tech and startup ecosystems and facilitate their adoption into Malaysia's financial scene.

The first cohort begins in January 2023.

“We look forward to Xcelerator 2023 as a great opportunity to meet and work together with promising founders to solve complex problems through co-experimentation of solutions.”, said RHB Banking Group head of Group Innovation, Ganesh Mahendranathan.

The programme is actively seeking seed-stage, venture-backed, as well as growth-stage fintech, and adjacent vertical startups to:

  • Improve customer experience by enabling a personalised customer experience via digital banking platforms.
  • Enhance distribution by identifying solutions to broaden the insurance distribution network so that organisations can more effectively serve the needs of the community.
  • Secure banking for the future future by providing banking solutions to grow together with young adults
  • Make micro banking more accessible by harnessing digitised solutions to support the growth of small businesses.

RHB Banking Group has partnered with 1337 Ventures for the three-month programme. 1337 Ventures, which runs incubator programmes and hackathons will provide mentorship, investment, and networking opportunities to the shortlisted startups.

“We are thrilled to partner with RHB Banking Group for Xcelerator to provide support and resources for the next generation of fintech startups. We are excited to see the impact these startups will have on the future of banking”, Bikesh Lakhmichand, CEO & Founding Partner of 1337 Ventures shared.

During the 12-week programmes, participants will work towards refining their idea through Design Thinking, self-paced learning and mentoring from RHB business leaders. This will lead to a potential paid proof of concept with RHB Banking Group.
