Cloud traffic to dominate data centres: Cisco study
In the third annual Cisco Global Cloud Index (2012 – 2017) issued recently, Cisco forecasts that global cloud traffic, the fastest growing component of data centre traffic, is expected to grow more than fourfold – a 35% combined annual growth rate (CAGR) – from 1.2 zettabytes of annual traffic in 2012 to 5.3 zettabytes by 2017.
Mobile data traffic to grow 13-fold from 2012-2017: Cisco
According to the Cisco Visual Networking Index Global Mobile Data Traffic Forecast for 2012 to 2017, worldwide mobile data traffic will increase 13-fold over the next five years, reaching 11.2 exabytes per month (for an annual run-rate of 134 exabytes) by 2017.
Massive amounts of data, but only 0.5% being analyzed
EMC Corporation has announced results of the IDC Digital Universe study it sponsored, “Big Data, Bigger Digital Shadows, and Biggest Growth in the Far East” – which found that despite the unprecedented expansion of the digital universe due to the massive amounts of data being generated daily by people and machines, only 0.5% of the world’s data is being analyzed.
Fujitsu, NEC and NTT in optical R&D pact
Fujitsu Limited, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) and NEC Corporation have announced a joint research and development (R&D effort toward making the world’s top-level, 400Gbps/channel-class digital coherent optical transmission technology.
