TM R&D wins award for research pact with ZTE

TELEKOM Research & Development Sdn Bhd (TM R&D), the research arm and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM), recently won the Best Broadband Partnership Award for joint research it conducted with China’s ZTE Corp.

The award, presented at the Broadband World Forum Awards 2015 in London, honoured the best partnership between a broadband service provider and any other type of company, TM R&D said in a statement.

The award also recognises a new innovation within an industry association and how the collaboration can push broadband development further.

“We are extremely proud to be honoured with this award by our global peers for a Malaysian-made technology,” said TM R&D chief executive officer Dr Gopi Kurup (pic above).

“At TM R&D, we continue to nurture innovation, particularly in the broadband segment, and our joint innovation labs in connectivity technologies aspire to ultimately provide Malaysian consumers with enhanced broadband experience through offerings by TM,” he added.

TM R&D was conferred the Award for its partnership for Communication Network Access Revolution with ZTE.

The two companies had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) in mid-2014 to co-develop new technologies, especially in next-generation access networks such as Time Wavelength Division Multiplexing Passive Optical Networks (TWDM-PONs).

A TWDM-PON system offers 40Gbps downstream and 10Gbps upstream data that is able to support up to 128 users at one time in a 40km fibre coverage. It can also co-exist with existing Optical Data Networks.

Held annually, the Broadband World Forum Awards 2015 brings together the industry elite to recognise the outstanding technologies developed for broadband services and celebrate excellence throughout the industry.
