- Targets 80% coverage in Kota Kinabalu by end-2012
- Committing US$9.4mil to provide East Malaysians with 4G broadband
4G service provider Packet One Networks (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (P1) has rolled in the East Malaysian state of Sabah, saying it aims to provide up to 80% household coverage in the urban parts of state capital Kota Kinabalu by the end of 2012.
P1 announced earlier this year that it will commit RM30 million (US$9.4 million) to provide East Malaysians with 4G broadband service, with phase one network deployment focused on Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, and Tawau.
The company claims to be Malaysia’s largest 4G service provider with over 400,000 subscribers.
“4G broadband technology brings the Internet superhighway to the people. With our plug and play services, you can do away with wires and the hassle of installation -- plus the added advantage of being nomadic even for fixed-wireless home access,” said chief executive officer Michael Lai.
