EMERSON Network Power and Schneider Electric hold prominent positions within the ‘Leaders’ category for 2014, according to IDC’s new vendor assessment and market analysis profiling the leading providers in Asia Pacific excluding Japan’s (APeJ) Data Centre Infrastructure Management (DCIM) market.
The study, IDC MarketScape: Asia/ Pacific (excluding Japan) Datacenter Infrastructure Management 2014 Vendor Analysis, uses the IDC MarketScape methodology to provide an assessment of 10 vendors participating in the DCIM market, IDC said in a statement.
“DCIM solutions can help organisations manage the growing complexity within their data centres and cope with the increasing pressure to be more agile in provisioning IT,” said Ambica Pruthi, senior market analyst with the Enterprise Infrastructure Team at IDC Asia/Pacific.
“Adoption of ‘third platform’ technologies has led to evolution of data centres at a much higher pace than the organisation's ability to transform their processes,” she added.
Ambica Pruthi said that the DCIM market is still evolving and has not reached a point where one solution fits all. Two major challenges IT buyers may face are:
- The differences in the definitions of DCIM solution, benefits and ROI (return on investment) create a lot of confusion and often make it difficult for buyers to do true comparisons; and
- Buyers, especially large organisations, find it difficult to figure out where to begin given the wide scope of DCIM implementation
In order to resonate better with the buyers, IDC recommends that vendors consider moving beyond the message of saving power and focus on how their solutions can help customers achieve optimisation, telemetry, and efficiency in their data centres.
IDC MarketScape is a vendor assessment tool designed for IT buyers to compare vendors’ current capability and strategy relative to one another and to the factors that IDC believes will be most conducive to future success in the DCIM market.
Vendors included in this analysis were ABB, CA Technologies, Cormant, Emerson Network Power, FieldView Solutions, iTRACS, Nlyte Software, Panduit, Raritan and Schneider Electric.
