- Wins the inaugural Singapore Venture Day Pitch Slam
- Hopes to showcase its legal solutions to the rest of the Southeast Asian region
EASYLAW, a legal mobile app founded in Malaysia, was recently named winner for the inaugural Singapore Venture Day Pitch Slam held during TechLaw.Fest 2018. The startup has now qualified to compete against regional winners from North America, Latin America and Europe in the final Global Legal Tech Venture Day to be held in Madrid this July.
TechLaw.Fest gathered notable speakers in the legal tech industry including Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister-in-Charge of the Smart Nation Initiative, Singapore and Andrew Arruda, CEO and co-founder of Ross Intelligence. Here, speakers shared on a number of topics related to technology's impact on the practice of the law.
By participating in TechLaw.Fest, which took place from April 4 to 6 in Singapore, EasyLaw hopes to showcase its legal solutions to the rest of the Southeast Asian region as well as gain more feedback from legal professionals to continuously improve the app.
“We at EasyLaw are honoured to be representing Malaysia on an international platform in the legal tech field. We strive to learn more with this platform which is very good exposure and a great learning experience for our team,” said EasyLaw co-founder June Low.
EasyLaw aims to make law accessible via technology. First, it offers a legal fee and stamp duty calculator for both lawyers and property investors to make sales and purchase agreements (SPAs) and loan agreements hassle-free. Next, its Easy Land Search feature also allows land searches to be conducted on behalf of lawyers for minimal fees.
The app also lists 10 Malaysian statutes including the Companies Act 2016, Will Act 1959 and Contracts Act 1950, making it readily available anywhere, anytime for lawyers on the go. It also provides a Directory of Commissioners of Oaths across Malaysia.
Under the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL), a promotion and development agency for Singapore’s legal industry, EasyLaw was inducted into the Future Law Innovation Programme (FLIP), a six-month programme by the agency offering support and resources to forward-thinking law firms and legal tech startups.
During the final Venture Day which is to be held in IE Law School in Madrid, competitors, including EasyLaw, will present their projects to a mix of investors, government officials, business pioneers, and representatives of key industries. They will also have the chance to meet world-leading experts in their field and receive advice, insights and best practices.
Start-ups like EasyLaw which are selected are given the possibility to get plugged into real networking and investment opportunities which could push their projects to the next level.
They also benefit from the global network of the Law Schools Global League (LSGL) and from that of each member law school.
