- IPServerOne now better able to manage and secure client data assets
IPSERVERONE, a cloud hosting and cloud storage companies has received the ISO27001 certification - a security management standard that specifies best practices and comprehensive security control methods.
The ISO27001 Information Security Management System certification addresses any risks to information - through best practices that ensure the confidentiality and integrity of clients’ data at all times while being accessible.
Significance to cloud-hosting business
“IPServerOne has essentially evolved into a cloud-based hosting provider that supports SME businesses at the local digital front. Information security is very critical to our clients who range from online businesses to highly data sensitive companies. By applying global standards of best practices in our everyday operations, IPServerOne is able to better manage and secure our clients data assets such as financial information, intellectual property, employee details and more, that is entrusted on us,” said IPServerOne managing director Lee Cheung Loong.
The ISO27001 IT security standards certification helps IPServerOne to evaluate the security risks present while taking into account the impact threats and vulnerabilities that will affect a company’s brand credibility in the event of data theft.
“It’s about having a management system that is not limited to IT only, but looks into human resources and operation processes that is involved in managing sensitive data. This is important as a simple error or entry at any of these points, puts your data at risk. And for cost-challenged SMEs this is more important given the amount of data they handle,” explained Lee.
Getting it right
IPServerOne approached Hitachi Sunway to help it meet the requirements in the certification application process.
“With global threats to online security increasing rapidly today, IPServerOne’s initiative to become certified is timely and a much needed boost for the industry. This will give their customers a better assurance on the abilities and credibility of the company,” said Hitachi Sunway Information Systems executive vice president Billy Lee Kok Chi (pic, right).
The Hitachi Sunway team began by examining the company and reviewing existing implementations. They then began to fix the gaps and define the objectives and best practices into the processes.
With everything in place, the most important step of training management and key personnel began. This is an important aspect of certification or ensuring best practices are adhered too.
“We chose Hitachi Sunway as we didn’t want just a pure consultant company but one like Hitachi Sunway which operates its own data centre and cloud operations. Their consultation and on-site expertise enabled us to quickly evaluate and implement the necessary actions,” said Lee.
Hitachi Sunway is a consultation company and data centre player with the ISO27001, ISO20000, ISO50001 and PCI DSS (The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) certifications under their belt.
They were able to bring their own experience to the consultation based on their own implementation exercise. Besides ISO27001, Hitachi Sunway also offers consultations for ISO20000 and ISO50001.
“The Hitachi Sunway team was instrumental in helping us fix gaps in our existing processes and designing a system that worked for us by taking into account our existing corporate practices while complying with the requirements of the certification. Training is essential to any company’s success in a crucial sector such as data security management, and Hitachi Sunway was able to deliver more than expected in our journey to this certification,” said Lee.
