Iris Corp appoints Choong Choo Hock as COO

IRIS Corp Bhd has appointed technology manufacturing industry veteran Choong Choo Hock (pic above) as its chief operating officer.

Choong, who has more than 32 years experience in the technology manufacturing industry, will be also be heading Iris Corp's Trusted Identification business. 

Choong joined Iris Corp eight years ago, and was responsible for streamlining its manufacturing operations to align with the company's global growth strategies.

"He is a seasoned and trusted executive who consistently delivers results. His combination of industry and manufacturing knowledge uniquely qualifies him to drive Iris Corp's operating priorities. 

"The board and I have tremendous confidence in Choong's ability to build on Iris Corp's innovative edge with best practice, and new technologies and tools that will extend our footprint globally," said Iris Corp deputy managing director Hamdan Mohd Hassan. 

In Choong's prior role as director of manufacturing, he was instrumental in the delivery of 183.2 million pieces of ePassports, inlays, eIDs and smartcards, which account for more than 66 percent of the company’s revenue. 

Prior to joining IRIS in 2009, Choong began his career as a process engineer with Metek Kitamura in Singapore in 1984 and progressed to production manager (Factory Manager Designate) assigned to set up Metek’s new Malaysian operations in Seremban in 1985. 

In 1995, he joined the semiconductor industry where he served in numerous senior management positions at Possehl Electronics, a German multinational.
