Check Point has issued an alert on ‘Misfortune Cookie,’ a critical vulnerability that allows an intruder to remotely take over a residential gateway device and use it to attack the devices connected to it.

More than 24 million home routers on the Internet have open DNS proxies which expose ISPs to DNS-based DDoS attacks, and the greatest concentration of such compromised routers can be found in Asean and China, said US-based Nominum.
