SeedPlus appoints Lim Der Shing as venture advisor

SEEDPLUS, the Singapore-based early stage venture capital firm, has announced the appointment of Lim Der Shing (pic) as venture advisor.

Lim brings more than 16 years of experience as an entrepreneur in Southeast Asia, with particular knowledge in starting, building and scaling consumer internet businesses.

He was co-founder and CEO of JobsCentral group which grew over 14 years into a leading regional job portal.

JobsCentral generated multi-million dollar profits and employed over 150 full time staff, and was ultimately sold to CareerBuilder.

Lim is also an active angel investor in Southeast Asia, working with and advising over 17 startups in the region.

“I am happy to join the SeedPlus team and hope to help them improve the investment process, and building the foundations of a truly great seed stage firm in Asia. I also look forward to working with the fantastic startups in the portfolio to help them scale up to be enduring businesses,” said Lim.

Lim is the first venture advisor to join the team of four operating partners: Michael Smith Jr, former CTO at streaming service HOOQ; Gabriel Lundberg, former Spotify product manager; Tiang Lim Foo, who led Evernote’s market development in APAC; and Chirayu Wadke, who formerly managed business development and strategic partnerships at Google.

SeedPlus has closed its debut fund of S$25 million (US$18.57 million) and is focused on early stage investments ranging from S$250,000 (US$185,743) to S$1 million (US$742,971) in verticals including software-as-a-service (SaaS), fintech, artificial intelligence (AI) and cyber security, and internet of things (IoT).

Lim will advise the fund on its investments and scaling strategies and work closely with SeedPlus portfolio companies in the areas of strategy, sales and leadership.

The appointment is aligned with SeedPlus’ commitment to provide operating expertise to its portfolio companies to achieve regional and global success stories from Asia.

“SeedPlus is proud to be a true partner to our founders and provide them with every resource available to help them achieve success,” said Smith.

“Der Shing’s wealth of experience in entrepreneurship and investment, coupled with his deep network around the world, will be an incredibly valuable asset to our current and future portfolio companies and we are thrilled to welcome him to the team.”
