ST Telemedia Global Data Centres adds sixth facility in Singapore

ST TELEMEDIA Global Data Centres (STT GDC) on Sept 19 announced that it has commenced construction on its sixth data centre in Singapore, joining the other new builds in Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen and London.

STT GDC’s global portfolio comprises STT GDC Singapore, STT GDC India, GDS Services and VIRTUS Data Centres with over 50 data centres globally.

Known as STT Defu 2, the new facility is located adjacent to existing facility STT Defu 1.

Together, both facilities will form STT GDC’s flagship data centre campus.

With this expansion, STT GDC is able to meet the growing market demand for colocation in Singapore. The construction is expected to be completed in the second half of 2018.

Highest industry standards

STT Defu 2 will be a five-storey, carrier-neutral data centre facility with a total floor space spanning over 150,000 square feet.

With rising expectations from enterprises for data centre facilities that are highly resilient, secure and able to support their current and future growth, STT Defu 2 is designed with the highest industry standards in mind.

To this end, STT Defu 2 intends to obtain certifications such as TIA-942, LEED, ISO 27001, BCA-IMDA Green Mark Platinum, PCI DSS/OSPAR, SS507 and TVRA compliance.

These certifications will evidence that the facility’s design and operations meet the most stringent requirements, and that customers’ technical infrastructure will be secured and optimised to the highest efficiency.

STT Defu 2 will be interconnected to the other STT GDC properties in Singapore, allowing customers to leverage the many network connectivity options available.

A selection of support services will also be available on a 24x7 basis, ensuring uninterrupted mission-critical applications for our customers.

Meeting market capacity needs

With STT Defu 1 rapidly filling up its capacity in less than a year since its launch, the timely construction of STT Defu 2 will translate into additional data centre capacity to serve existing customers’ expansion plans.

“Over the past three years, we have expanded our data centre platform rapidly and established ourselves as a leading player in the data centre industry. The advent of STT Defu 2 will serve to further cement our position in the industry and we look forward to starting operations in it,” said ST Telemedia Global Data Centres chief executive officer Bruno Lopez.

“STT Defu 2 is designed to meet the most critical infrastructure needs of cloud, telco, IT and financial services industries. We are confident that this expansion will enable us to effectively meet our customers’ evolving business needs, and help them scale up their deployment requirements easily and quickly – both essential factors for success in our increasingly digitised world.”
