Presto! The new Honor MagicWatch 2 is unveiled in Malaysia

• Users get 15 fitness modes, sleep tracking and stress detection
• Make or receive Bluetooth calls from as far as 150 meters away from phone

Smartphone brand Honor on 18 Dec officially conjured its new wearable smartwatch, the Honor MagicWatch 2, into Malaysian shores. The new iteration to their smart wearables line now boasts up to 14 days battery life that is enabled by its Kirin A1 chipset, besides a variety of other intelligent features.

The MagicWatch 2 is the next step of the brand’s 1+8-N IoT strategy, which is made up of Honor’s own ecosystem of integrated, connected smart products that surround its smartphones.

The device sports a 1.39-inch full-colour AMOLED touchscreen, fitted over a 46mm unit. It prices at US$168.78 (RM699) and will be available on the Honor Malaysian website, Honor Experience Stores nationwide and the Honor official store on Shopee starting 20 December 2019.

Two other variants, the 46mm Flax Brown MagicWatch 2 and the 42mm version is said to arrive soon.

More fitness options

What’s new with the MagicWatch 2? For starters, the device now offers 15 goal-based fitness modes – 8 for the outdoors, such as hiking, running and cycling; and 7 for indoor activities like swimming, free training and sweating into the rowing machine.

This is further complemented by 13 professional indoor and outdoor running courses across beginner to advance levels, meant to push and motivate users into doing better. The device also comes with a virtual pacesetter with real-time actionable advice to help enhance workouts while keeping to your own preferred pace.

Adding to that, the MagicWatch 2’s TrueSleep 2.0 technology is said to be able to precisely track and diagnose six common types of sleep disorders and subsequently provide over 200 corresponding suggestions to help users tailor their sleeping habits.

Honor says that the device can also detect user stress levels, such as when you’re feeling tense, and then recommend breathing exercise to help achieve some peace of mind (this is part of the device’s Huawei TruRelax technology).

Rounding it up is the integrated Huawei TruSeen tech, which allows the MagicWatch 2 to keep an eye on your heart rate 24/7 and send users an alert when it goes above or below normal levels.

Smarter tech

You can also take the MagicWatch 2 for a swim, as it’s water resistant for up to 50 meters, and is able to monitor your heart rate plus record SWOLF score, distance, speed and burned calories while underwater.

Personal health data can be synced to the smartphone using the pre-installed Huawei Health app.

It’s not just a device for health monitoring, though. MagicWatch 2 can allow users to make or receive Bluetooth calls, either through headphones or via the built-in speaker and mic. Calls can be taken from as far as 150 meters away from the phone.

The device also supports push notifications, so that users can receive SMS messages, emails and calendar alerts, as well as view them on the MagicWatch 2 screen. There are also some built-in apps, including Weather, Alarm, Timer and Find My Phone.

The smartwatch has 4GB of internal storage, of which 2GB can be used for music storage. That, according to Honor, allows for up to 500 on-device songs. Not bad for those without Spotify and would want to leave their phones at home while going for their run.
