New predators assault Malaysia

• New gaming PCs with Nvidia GTX 1080 graphics cards
• Wi-Fi, LAN combined and support for four VR standards

 

THREE months after its first unveiling in New York, Acer Malaysia has now launched the Predator G1 desktop PC and the Predator 17 X gaming laptop here.
 
Acer claims that both the Predator G1 and Predator 17 X are specially developed for gaming enthusiasts. Both are Nvidia GeForce VR-Ready, allowing for gaming with virtual reality (VR) devices from Oculus, HTC Vive, OSVR and StarVR.
 
"Acer is ready to partner our customers in their needs, be it playing or working in this new digital world," said Johnson Seet, Director of Products, Acer Sales & Services Sdn Bhd.
 
An armour-inspired design makes the PC look the part of a deadly killing machine. The war machine’s 16-litre body includes the latest Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card. The new Predators also support four VR standards. The Nvidia GPU is coupled with the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi MB5 sound card which provides 7.1 channel audio.
 
The PredatorSense software enables gamers to set up and activate different gaming profiles and configurations in one place. It controls the desktop’s coloured lighting, enables hotkey setup, and keeps tabs on the overall vitals. With the sound-reactive 'Growl Lights', gamers can configure the pulsing multicolour LEDs to react to their in-game sounds and music the way they want them to.
 
According to Acer, the Predator Mechanical Keyboard, which comes bundled with the Predator G1, offers greater precision and tactile feedback. Its full-coloured backlighting can also be customised according to the user's needs. The Predator G1 also includes a Predator gaming mouse.
 
An interesting feature of the new PCs is the Killer DoubleShot Pro networking. This allows the use of both wireless and ethernet at the same time. This will provide more usable bandwidth to the end user.  A Killer ethernet controller is capable of handling 1Gbps of data and the Wireless adapter, a maximum of 867Mbps.  Killer DoubleShot Pro allows both of these networking interfaces to work at the same time.  
 

 

DoubleShot Pro will automatically pick the fastest network connection (ethernet or wireless) to send all high priority traffic over that interface.  All standard traffic is then sent over the other interface.

The desktop PCs come with 10 units of a limited edition G1 suitcase branded with the Predator logo. They are designed to make the gamer standout at LAN parties.
 
But there is an 'ouch' in the gaming fairy tale. The new Acer Predator G1 is priced at RM10,999 and the Acer Predator 17 X laptop at RM12,999. Definitely easy on the credit card.
