MOL enlists Wargaming

  • MOL AccessPortal and Wargaming sign strategic partnership
  • Wargaming titles will now offer players payment options via MOLPoints

MOL enlists WargamingE-PAYMENT service provider MOL AccessPortal, a wholly-owned subsidiary of MOL Global, has signed a strategic partnership with online game developer and publisher, Wargaming.

Under the agreement Wargaming, whose flagship title is the popular massive multiplayer online (MMO) action game World of Tanks, will now offer its players access to the MOLPoints payment system, to pay and play using local currency payment options. 

MOLPoints is a virtual currency used by over two million online consumers to acquire online credits and digital goods worldwide.

The new partnership was celebrated with an exchange of document ceremony between MOL Global group chief executive officer Ganesh Kumar Bangah (pic, right) and Wargaming Southeast Asia’s chief strategic officer, KC Tan (pic, left).

The ceremony was also witnessed by Datuk Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad (pic, center), deputy secretary general (Policy & Innovation) for the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and held concurrently with the launch of National ICT Month, World Cyber Games Asian Championship 2012 and Digital Lifestyle Expo 2012 held on Sept 7 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Expressing delight with the agreement, Ganesh called it “another milestone” for the company in its on-going mission to foster strong partnerships with reputable game publishers and developers worldwide.

“War games are genuinely unique in their approach and especially to the MMO genre. We believe by implementing the MOLPoints online payment system, Wargaming titles will garner greater awareness among the gaming community and achieve further growth by expanding into new markets,” he said.

Commenting on the partnership, Victor Kislyi, chief executive Officer of Wargaming said: “MOL is a leader in the digital payment system in this region, so partnering with them was an obvious choice. Their knowledge and experience in this region makes them an invaluable partner and we look forward to working with them in the future and at the same time working together to help spread Wargaming and our titles’ reach to brand new players."

MOL has currently collaborations with over 150 game publishers worldwide, including Electronic Arts and Zynga offering online payment solutions. The company provides gamers with localised payment options boasting over 680,000 payment channels in more than 80 countries.
