VMware confirms appointment of Alex Loh as Malaysia country managerUS cloud and virtualisation giant VMware Inc has confirmed Digital News Asia’s story earlier this week that former Dimension Data senior executive Alex Loh (pic) has been appointed to lead its business in Malaysia.

He succeeds Laurence Si who has gone on to Amazon Web Services (AWS).

As VMware’s new business leader in Malaysia, Loh will focus on further accelerating and extending its growth in the country, the company said in a statement.

He will spearhead strategic planning and business development, as well as sales and channel operations, while supporting and empowering VMware customers’ use of software-defined IT, it added.

“Alex [Loh] has a strong track record in the IT industry and I am confident that his expertise will take us to the next stage of growth in Malaysia,” said Ron Goh, VMware’s president of South-East Asia and Korea.

“He is a strong organisational leader and his deep understanding of the vertical-specific business, as well as the work he has done with enterprise accounts, will enable us to further strengthen our penetration into new markets,” he added.

After 20 years in the IT industry, Loh brings with him a wealth of experience from technical engineering to sales and solutions-selling, VMware said in its statement.

Prior to VMware, he was managing director of IoT Solutions, a company that he started to help businesses use technology to harness data analytics to drive business growth.

He also spent 13 years at Dimension Data Malaysia where he served in key management roles including head of sales and head of the Solutions Development Group & Alliances.

“Today, cloud computing and business mobility are more than just buzz phrases,” said Loh.

“Governments and businesses, both globally and in Malaysia, are looking at the use of technology to compete in the digital economy.

“I’m thrilled to be joining VMware at a time where the team can create maximum impact, enabling both our customers and partners to realise business efficiency, agility and innovation through digital transformation,” he added.
